Mourning dove (Zenaida macroura) feeding its two chicks.  This species will usually only lay two eggs at a time, but will typically have several broods per year.  The chicks are born helpless (altricial) and are called squabs.  Both parents will feed the squabs pigeon’s milk (crop milk) for the first 3-4 days before gradually augmenting regurgitated seeds.
